Katrina Animals still need help

Susan, Angel's gate and Handicapped Pets, I'm Aleta, from Animal Rescue New Orleans and am writing at Anastasia Crider's suggestion about Pugsley. He was rescued from the streets of the N.O. area by one of our trappers because the other members of the colony he was trying to join wouldn't let him eat. I'm sure, by his picture, you can tell that he's a long haired cat and so he had the biggest mats I've ever seen on a cat! Anastasia and I cut his mats out but then I was afraid he'd be cold during this really bad cold snap we had so I decided to take him home with me, something I try to avoid because we already have 10 cats. Robin at the shelter suggested I take him to the vet on my way home and it was then that we found out the terrible news that Puggy is BOTH FIV and FeLeuk positive. I'm sure it's from having to fight for his life on the streets. I took him home anyway, isolated him from the rest of my cats and have been giving him the immune supplement that A. recommends. He has gained weight at an unbelievable rate and is doing great! Mostly, we've all fallen in love with him and are so anxious to find him a place to go and be happy for the rest of whatever time he has. So I'm wondering if there might be a place for him at Angel's Gate or if you all at Handicapped Pets might have a place to recommend. I'm so sorry to hear about the problems you all at Angel's Gate are having with the city and zoning. Been there and Done that in my experience as an animal welfare person. Please let me know if there's anything you think you can do for our angel, Pugsley. Thanks so much for your attention and what you all do for the little ones. Aleta Landaiche (504) 669-7600
